Our Lady of Campiglio
Madonna di Campiglio is one of the most famous resorts in Trentino, appreciated for its marvelous panoramas, ski slopes, ski lifts and hospitality (elegant hotels and residences for summer and internal holidays).
It is part of the municipality of Pinzolo, nestled between the peaks of the Adamello Presanella and the Brenta, at an altitude of 1550 metres, within the Adamello Brenta Natural Park. The territory is included within the Adamello Brenta Natural Park, surrounded by panoramas of mountains and valleys.
Madonna di Campiglio is one of the most important ski resorts in Trentino, its 3-Tre slope is very famous, which hosts the special slalom races valid for the Alpine Ski Cup. It is also a fashionable locality, full of shops and clubs.

In winter:
Ski lovers can find 60 kilometers of slopes and 20 ski lifts in Madonna di Campiglio, elements that make this resort one of the most important ski resorts in Italy.
What are the slopes not to be missed?
Definitely the historic 3-Tre slope, which has always been chosen for alpine skiing competitions, and today is the venue for slalom and special slalom competitions valid for the Alpine Ski Cup.
The Pista Graffer, which takes its name from the famous refuge located in the middle of the runway, entitled Giorgio Graffer, Captain Pilot of the Air Force. It is a slope with a low level of difficulty, therefore also ideal for beginners, but also very popular with expert skiers.
The Pista Spinale Direttissima, with a vertical drop of 600 meters and a length of almost 2.5 kilometres. It is a fairly demanding track, with the last stretch, named after Michael Schumacher, with a 70% gradient.
The Canalone Miramonti is a slalom slope and has hosted, over the years, the victories of great champions (Ingemar Stenmark, Hirsher, Gustav Thöni and Tomba)
In summer:
Madonna di Campiglio is located near the Adamello Brenta Natural Park, with over 450 kilometers of mountain paths ideal for walking, hiking, trekking and mountain biking.
Among the most beautiful attractions are certainly the lakes of glacial origin: Lambin, Ritorto, Nero, Serodoli and Gelato.
History
Madonna di Campiglio is a relatively young locality, it was born around 1868 when Giambattista Righi di Strembo bought the former monastery of Santa Maria di Campiglio for 40,000 florins, transforming it into a hotel “Lo Stabilimento Alpino” to welcome the first tourists in this ‘area. In 1875 he undertook the construction of the road that connected the main towns of the Alta Val Rendena with Madonna di Campiglio. The business started by Gian Battista was inherited in 1882 by Franz Joseph Oesterreicher, who already owned the Grand Hotel Trento. According to the best informed, Franz Joseph would have been the illegitimate son of the Emperor of Austria and Hungary. Franz Joseph managed to transform Madonna di Campiglio into the perfect resort for the nobility and the rich bourgeoisie of the time. between 1889 and 1894 the Emperor Franz Joseph and Princess Sissi also stayed there.
The Oesterreicher family remained the owners of Madonna di Campiglio until 1955. In 1947 the Funivie Madonna di Campiglio company was born and in 1948 the first chair lift was inaugurated which led from Madonna di Campiglio to Spinale.
How to get to Madonna di Campiglio
For those coming from the A22 Modena-Brennero motorway, Trento Sud exit for those coming from the south, San Michele all’Adige exit for those coming from the north.
For those coming from the A4 Milano Venezia motorway, exit Brescia Est and then continue on the SS45bis, SS237.
Madonna di Campiglio is easily reached by following the Campiglio SS 239 which serves as a link between the Val di Sole and the Giudicarie valleys, passing the Alpine pass of Campo Carlo Magno.
